Frequently asked questions

More information

If you need any more detail before you book, email hello@stephyourstylist.com and I’ll come back to you.

Is the analysis completed online?

Yes. It’s a fully digital service, worked out from the photographs you send and completed using digital draping.

Do I need professional photographs?

No. Clear phone photographs work well when they follow the guidance in your questionnaire. Natural daylight, accurate colour, and a face free of makeup and fake tan matter far more than professional equipment.

How long will it take?

One to three weeks from the day your completed questionnaire arrives. If I’m waiting on anything from you, it will take longer.

How accurate is colour analysis without draping in person?

A digital colour analysis can be highly accurate when it’s based on suitable photographs and worked through carefully and comparatively.

Colour analysis isn’t a regulated industry. Analysts use different seasonal systems, methods and palettes, so results can vary between professionals – digitally or in person.

My analysis is completed in two stages. First I assess the four key characteristics of your natural colouring: temperature, value, chroma and contrast. That gives me an informed starting point and narrows down the seasons most likely to suit you.

I then use digital draping to compare those neighbouring seasons, testing a wide range of individual colours against your features before settling on the most harmonious result.

Working digitally has real advantages. I spend 60 to 90 minutes on each client, with no pressure to reach a conclusion while you sit in front of me. I can pause, revisit comparisons, change my mind, and work through a far wider range of drapes than would be practical in person.

The quality of your photographs matters, which is why you’ll receive clear instructions for taking them. If the lighting or colour isn’t right, I’ll ask for new images rather than analyse photographs I can’t rely on.

Your result is never based on a quick quiz or a single photograph. It’s a considered analysis, reached through careful comparison and professional judgement.

What is the 12-season system?

The 12-season system expands the four traditional seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter – into more precise palettes, by looking at whether your colouring is warm or cool, light or deep, soft or bright. It gives a far more nuanced result than four seasons alone.

What if I sit between seasons?

Many people share qualities with more than one season. I compare the closest possibilities carefully, then identify the palette that creates the strongest overall harmony.

What if I don’t agree with my result?

Email hello@stephyourstylist.com and I’ll walk you through what I saw and how I reached the result. Sometimes a season feels wrong because it’s unfamiliar rather than because it’s inaccurate.

Will I need to replace my wardrobe or makeup bag?

No. Your palette is a tool for making more informed decisions, not an instruction to discard everything you own. You can apply it gradually and decide where colour makes the greatest difference for you.

What happens if I lose my digital file after it’s sent?

Your guide is yours to keep, so please download and save your own copy when it arrives. For privacy reasons I delete digital files and photographs 60 days after your service is complete, so I can’t resend after that.

Is this included in the Personal Styling Packages?
